02 / EQUIPMENT FIELD GUIDE

Understand the equipment.

Vial sizing guide ↓

A practical overview of the containers, consumables, storage systems, and laboratory tools used across peptide, clinical, and research settings.

Not every setup needs every item. Clinical devices follow their product instructions; laboratory equipment belongs to the relevant laboratory workflow. Where a storage accessory is useful, a small related link points to a Layered Vault option.

01 / Containers & delivery

Vials & vial formats

Vials differ in outside diameter, height, closure, and labeled volume. Single-dose and multidose describe the product’s intended use, not the shape of the bottle.

Selection & compatibility notes

For physical storage, measure the widest diameter and full capped height. Keep the original label readable; use the medication’s instructions for handling.

Further reading

02 / Containers & delivery

Syringes & measurement scales

Syringes vary by barrel capacity, graduation scale, tip connection, and whether the needle is attached. A unit scale and a milliliter scale are different ways of marking volume.

Selection & compatibility notes

Match the exact prescribed or laboratory equipment specification. For an organizer, check total capped length, barrel width, and quantity.

Further reading

03 / Containers & delivery

Needles, pen tips & connections

Needles and pen tips vary by gauge, length, attachment, and device compatibility. Pen needles and syringe needles are not automatically interchangeable.

Selection & compatibility notes

Use the device manufacturer’s compatibility information and clinician’s instructions. Keep unused supplies in their packaging and separate from used sharps.

Further reading

04 / Containers & delivery

Injection pens

Pens can be disposable prefilled devices or reusable devices with compatible cartridges. Their body shape, length, mechanism, and accessories vary.

Selection & compatibility notes

Identify the exact device model before buying accessories. For a case, compare the pen’s complete dimensions and any supplies carried alongside it.

05 / Containers & delivery

Cartridges

Cartridges are device-specific containers and have a different shape from ordinary vials. Equal labeled volume does not make two formats interchangeable.

Selection & compatibility notes

Check the pen manufacturer’s cartridge specification. Compare diameter and total length when choosing physical storage.

06 / Handling & consumables

Diluents & reconstitution supplies

Bacteriostatic water, sterile water, and other labeled diluents have different compositions and intended uses. Bacteriostatic water contains a preservative.

Selection & compatibility notes

The exact medicine or laboratory protocol determines the specified diluent. Check the label rather than selecting by a general peptide name. Diluent bottles may also need larger storage slots.

Further reading

07 / Handling & consumables

Alcohol pads & cleaning materials

Individually packaged alcohol pads and cleaning materials are common in clinical supply setups. Their purpose differs from cleaning the outside of a storage case.

Selection & compatibility notes

Follow the supply’s labeling and applicable clinical guidance. Keep packaged materials organized and use the case maker’s care instructions for the organizer itself.

Further reading

08 / Handling & consumables

Sharps disposal containers

Dedicated sharps containers provide a place for used needles and syringes. They are disposal equipment, separate from cases for unused supplies.

Selection & compatibility notes

Look for an appropriate FDA-cleared sharps container, a suitable opening, and a visible fill line. Check local disposal arrangements.

Further reading

09 / Handling & consumables

Labels, markers & inventory cards

Readable labels and simple inventory records make similar-looking supplies easier to distinguish. Useful records can include product identity, lot number, and dates supplied with the product.

Selection & compatibility notes

Keep original identifying information visible. Choose labels that remain readable in the intended environment; handwritten dates do not create a new expiration or beyond-use date.

10 / Handling & consumables

Work surfaces & protective supplies

Clinical and laboratory environments may use designated work areas, appropriate gloves, and other protective equipment. An organized desktop is only one part of that environment.

Selection & compatibility notes

Choose equipment for the actual clinical or laboratory task and training requirements. A desktop organizer does not provide a sterile preparation environment.

Further reading

11 / Temperature & transport

Refrigerators & shelf organizers

Refrigerated products need the conditions specified for the exact formulation. Shelf organizers and holders help keep items separated and accessible.

Selection & compatibility notes

Check product storage instructions, usable space, mounting clearance, and device dimensions. Physical organization does not establish the correct storage temperature.

12 / Temperature & transport

Thermometers & temperature loggers

A thermometer reports temperature; a logger can record changes over time. Features may include probes, minimum and maximum readings, alerts, and downloadable records.

Selection & compatibility notes

Compare accuracy, calibration information, probe placement instructions, and monitoring requirements for the specific product or workflow.

13 / Temperature & transport

Cooling wallets, bags & cold packs

Cooling products range from insulated bags to purpose-built carriers with cold packs. Insulation and active cooling provide different functions.

Selection & compatibility notes

Compare the manufacturer’s validated performance and duration with the exact product’s transport requirements. Avoid assuming that “cool” means an appropriate temperature or that direct ice contact is suitable.

14 / Temperature & transport

Thermoses, outer containers & inserts

Outer containers provide carrying space; fitted inserts separate and arrange the contents. The insert and outer container have distinct functions.

Selection & compatibility notes

Match the exact outer-container model and inside dimensions. A fitted insert does not independently establish cooling performance.

15 / Organization & storage

Vial racks & trays

Open racks and trays keep a group of vials upright and visible. Some prioritize compact storage; others provide wider spacing for easier identification.

Selection & compatibility notes

Compare slot dimensions, capacity, footprint, and access to labels. An open rack and a closed carrying case serve different needs.

16 / Organization & storage

Hard cases & mixed supply layouts

Closed cases can separate several vial formats, capped supplies, and packaged accessories. Interior layout matters as much as overall case size.

Selection & compatibility notes

Count each item type and compare compartment dimensions. Evaluate closure, access, and material care requirements.

17 / Organization & storage

Modular adapters & dividers

Adapters and dividers let a compatible organizer accommodate different equipment formats. They adjust the physical layout rather than the contents of a vial.

Selection & compatibility notes

Check the host case, slot size, adapter dimensions, and supported vial format.

18 / Laboratory equipment

Pipettes & laboratory measuring tools

Pipettes, tips, and graduated laboratory containers support measured liquid handling in laboratory workflows. Their measurement ranges and accuracy differ.

Selection & compatibility notes

Compare calibration, stated accuracy, volume range, and compatibility with the laboratory method. These are laboratory tools rather than substitutes for a prescribed delivery device.

19 / Laboratory equipment

Laboratory balances

Balances measure mass and differ in readability, calibrated performance, and sensitivity to the environment. Displaying extra decimal places is not the same as accurate measurement.

Selection & compatibility notes

Use the laboratory method’s requirements to select range, calibration, and environmental controls. A household scale is not equivalent to an analytical balance.

20 / Laboratory equipment

Filters, sterile consumables & lab vessels

Laboratory workflows may use filters, sterile vessels, and compatible consumables. Material, pore size, sterility, and chemical compatibility are separate specifications.

Selection & compatibility notes

Selection belongs to a validated laboratory or professional preparation method. Owning a filter or sterile container does not establish a sterile finished preparation.

Equipment topics are educational references. Layered Vault makes storage accessories; links concern physical fit and organization, not medicine selection or treatment.

03 / KEEP IT TOGETHER

Storage starts with the right fit.

Measure before you choose

  1. Measure the widest outside diameter of the vial, including any label.
  2. Measure its total height with the cap on.
  3. Count each vial size and measure your capped supplies.
  4. Compare these measurements with the exact case specifications.

A “3ml” label describes volume, not a universal outside dimension.

One case, several sizes

Our all-in-one case lists slots for 3 × 10ml vials, 6 × 3ml vials, one Hospira BAC water vial, and a syringe compartment.

Listed vial sizes: 24 × 55mm and 17 × 40mm. Listed syringe capacity: up to 120mm long. Check the product listing for your setup.

See specifications & colors ↗

Keep the label with the vial

Keep identifying labels readable and retain the original product instructions. Organize supplies so each item is easy to identify.

Use the exact product’s manufacturer or pharmacy storage instructions. An organizer does not set shelf life or replace temperature-controlled transport.

Browse storage organizers ↗

04 / THE BASICS

Small glossary. Useful distinctions.

mg, mcg & mL

mg and mcg measure mass; mL measures volume. 1mg = 1,000mcg. A volume alone does not tell you how much active ingredient it contains.

Concentration

The amount of a substance per volume of solution, often written as mg/mL. Concentration and total vial volume are different quantities.

Research topic

The question or area examined in a study. A topic such as tissue repair is not a promise that a compound repairs tissue in people.

Clinical vs. laboratory research

Clinical research involves people. Laboratory and animal studies can help explain biology, but their findings may not translate to a treatment benefit.

Ingredient vs. finished product

An ingredient name does not identify every formulation, concentration, or approved use. FDA approval applies to specific finished medicines. FDA reference ↗

Case fit vs. vial capacity

Volume labels such as 3ml or 10ml do not guarantee fit. Compare outside diameter and total height against the dimensions listed for the organizer.
